There’s no doubt there are many fun things to do in Ashland, but there are also many wonderful things to do beyond Ashland. Most people who visit the Bayberry Inn will park their car and never drive it again until they have to leave as everything is within walking distance to the Inn: Oregon Shakespeare Festival, downtown shops and restaurants, little convenient stores and the Oregon Cabaret Theatre are within a few short minutes. There is, however, so many beautiful things to do just outside our beautiful and exciting town.

Crater Lake National Park is by far one of the most amazing sights and is just an hour-and-a-half drive from the Bayberry Inn. The deepest lake in the United States, dipping 1,949 feet down, the lake is filled completely with snow melt as there are no streams going into it. A ‘Sleeping Volcano,’ Crater Lake has the most beautiful clear blue water and will leave you breathless at it’s spectacular beauty. Given it is located at 6,178 feet in elevation, it is not easy to get to during the winter months therefore summertime is the best time to visit this gorgeous national treasure.

Lake of the Woods is 51 miles from the Bayberry Inn and is one of the pretties drives you can take. Up Dead Indian Memorial Road, the Lake is located up at almost 5,000 feet in elevation and offers a respite from the summer heat in Ashland. A gorgeous lake that spans 8 miles is a great place to go hiking, camping, fishing and boating. You can rent boats by the hour and enjoy the natural beauty, or just drive up for a lovely lunch by the water. Here’s a great article about the surrounding areas of Lake of the Woods: (click here)  If you don’t want to drive so far, however, you can always stop at one of the other lakes on the way, such as Howard Prairie Lake or Hyatt Lake.

Outdoor activities at Lake of the Woods Ashland Oregon

On your way up to Lake of the Woods, there are several other Lakes which are closer to Ashland. The first being our very own little lake called Emigrant Lake, which is just on the outskirts of town. Many people go there to fish and spend the day on the water where you can rent kayaks, boats and paddle boards. In the summertime, it’s filled with happy locals water skiing and enjoying their day on the water. There is also a great children’s play area complete with waterslides that drop you into the lake.

Lithia Park Reservoir is another great place to visit and as it’s in town, located inside Lithia Park it is easy to take your book and sit by the water for a little R&R from all the plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. They’ve created a lovely sandy beach which leads into the reservoir and there’s plenty trees to find a shady nook on the grassy fields surrounding the water. Guests at the Bayberry Inn often will pack a picnic and enjoy a few hours away from the excitement of town at this little haven. Don’t miss taking a lovely walk through Lithia Park, even if you don’t have time to visit the Reservoir.
