Day Trips from the Bayberry Inn

Gorgeous waterfalls, unforgettable skiing, spectacular hiking and biking are just a few of the awesome things one can do in a day trips from Ashland Oregon. You can enjoy your gourmet breakfast at the Bayberry Inn and be off on a full day of adventure in Southern Oregon and still make it back in time to see a play at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival or at the Oregon Cabaret

Mountain Lakes

Ashland is surrounded by four gorgeous lakes and they are all easily accessible in a day trip from Ashland. Each of these lakes offers something different.

Crater Lake National Park
An hour-and-a-half away from the Bayberry Inn B&B, this is the perfect place to visit for a day. It is one of the most spectacular sites to see and the drive is beautiful. If you have time, stop by Natural Bridge Loop at Mile Marker 55 to stretch your leg. You won’t regret it. Crater Lake Lodge is an option to stop for a cafeteria style lunch.

Lake of the Woods
Located 45 minutes away from downtown Ashland, Lake of the Woods is a wonderful place to go hiking, fishing or boating. You can rent all types of boats & paddle boards for the day so all you need is your bathing suit & towel. There is a small convenient store & a restaurant and I highly recommend having a Bloody Mary!

Hyatt Lake
With a small restaurant and plenty of fishing, Hyatt Lake is about 30 minutes from Ashland and is a great place to spend the day hiking & fishing. There are plenty of day use areas with picnic tables. They have a small restaurant and shop where you can pick up some basic things such as tackle and fresh fishing lines.

Howard Prairie Lake
Bird watching, fishing and picnicking this little lake has it all. Located about 30 minutes from Ashland, it’s a lovely place to spend the afternoon hiking.

Emigrant Lake
Located in Ashland, this lake has a fun kids water park as well as a day use area equipped with picnic tables and fire pits.Good for water skiing and fishing, although the water levels get low towards the middle of the summer. They don’t rent jet boats but you can rent paddle boards in the summertime.

Wine Tours

Southern Oregon is one of the fastest growing wine region in the world. With over 70 vineyards in our back yard, many who are award winning, we recommend spending at least a day visiting our wineries.

We have several local wineries in Ashland, but if you want to venture out a bit further, ask the Bayberry Inn staff for a map. The Applegate & Rogue Valley wineries are worth driving out too, especially if you want to load up on great wines at great prices directly from the source. Ask us for a wine tasting voucher.

If you would rather not drive or hassle with maps, however, we recommend joining a wine country tour.

River Rafting

Ashland is surrounded by the Umpqua & Rogue River where you can find some amazing rafting. Anything from easy slow rides down a lazy part of the river to extreme rafting can be found here. Most outfitters will pick you up from the Bayberry Inn and have either morning or afternoon trips, depending on what part of the river you’re riding. They also provide you with water & food, but you need to bring your own towel.

Jet Boat Trips

Hellgates Jet Boat Excursions
Located in Grants Pass which is about 45 minutes from downtown Ashland, this is a very fun way to spend the day on the river without really having to get wet. One of our favorite things to do in the summertime, you can pick up a boat at the Hellgate Office in Grants Pass. Don’t worry, you won’t get wet and if you do, you’ll be dry by the time you reach shore.

Jacksonville Oregon

Jacksonville is a historic small town located about 30 miles from downtown Ashland and the Bayberry Inn Bed and Breakfast. It is home to the Britt Festival, a wonderful outdoor live music venue that is filled with great musical acts from around the country featuring everything from classic rock, jazz, chamber and classical music. It reminds one of being in the wild wild west with it’s very own saloon and it’s original post office. You can sign up for tours of Jacksonville on a traditional trolly which takes about an hour. The town is small and quaint with a few good restaurants and bars. It’s a lovely little day trip from the Bayberry Inn B&B.

Oregon Caves

The Oregon Caves are located in Cave Junction, Oregon about 89 miles outside of Ashland. It’s an easy place to visit during the warmer months and is on the way to the Southern Oregon Coast. It can easily be done in a day and I would recommend calling ahead to schedule a tour (click here for reservations) so you can make sure to have a spot and maximize your visit.
