Your Skin

Your skin is a living organ that is responsible for several functions. It acts as a barrier that allows certain elements to enter and exit the body. It is made up of hair follicles, sweat glands, and oil glands which create a protective barrier. Your skin also secretes sebum that helps to fight bacteria. It constantly excretes waste and sheds dead skin cells. However, without proper exfoliation, these cells can pile up and become a breeding ground for bacteria. Your skin also has an "acid mantle" that helps to balance the body's pH. The pH of your skin is around 5.5-6.5, but most cleansers, soaps, and shampoos sold today have a pH of 9-12. It is important to use a pH-balancing toner after cleaning, especially on the face and neck skin.

Different parts of your body have different skin types that absorb elements differently and hold moisture differently. Climate, lifestyle, diet, medication, emotional state, and physical health can all affect your skin. With so many variables, it's no wonder there are countless skin products out there to choose from.

BFF has created specific formulas to address specific needs. These products are freshly made from all-natural ingredients from around the world and here at home. Ingredients vary with each product line, and packaging may vary as well.

Are there any precautions when using botanicals?

Some people may have or develop allergies to essential oils or other elements. Just as people are allergic to different foods or medications. Always perform a skin test on the back of the hand a few hours before applying essential oils to large areas of the body, inhaling, or ingesting. When in doubt, we always recommend that you consult with a licensed physician. The information provided in this article is not intended to replace the advice or care of your doctor. If you are using medications, pregnant, or nursing please consult with your health care provider prior to any use of essential oils.

What if I do not like my products?

Everyone’s chemistry is different and therefore, their bodies might have an adverse/undesirable reaction to an element that we use. Of course, there is no way to plan for this. Same way that you do not know if you like a particular food, or if it will like you, until you try it. If that is the case, it would most likely be only one or two items out of your kit and you can adjust your order to better suit you. You can also check with your doctor prior to ordering to verify you do not have a condition that would feed a negative reaction from plant-based oils. Check ingredients on the BFF website store, if you have allergies. We want you to be happy and healthy and will work hard to make that happen.

Returns:
Due to the customization and volatile nature of our products, we do not accept returns. Our products are made-to-order based off your selections at the time of ordering. A majority of our products have a set shelf life. Please email or call us with any issues you encounter. As a valued customer, we do all we can to find a beneficial solution for all parties involved.

Why do I see preservatives on the ingredient list?

Preservatives are used to protect products from bacteria and mold and give products a longer shelf life. The decaying process is natural and will eventually occur with or without preservatives. Skin and hair care products do not, and should not, last forever. Just like food, all-natural skin care products will eventually deteriorate and go “bad”. Any product that contains or will encounter water MUST have some sort of preservative. Otherwise, they are a breeding ground for microbes and bacteria.

Here at Botanically Fused Formulas, we take every care in finding the most natural preservatives and using the minimum percentages required to keep your products safe and fresh. However, due to this, our products will NOT last for years like the big brands that utilize artificial preservatives do. We minimize waste by keeping the sizes of products in volumes that should last the duration of the expected usage timeframe. Take a Hydrosol, for example; you pay between $20 and $50 an ounce for this product. Without ANY preservative it would start growing bacteria within 3 days after opening it. You certainly wouldn’t want to spray that on your face!

The preservatives we used are plant based! They are proven safe and effective.

Why are there so many "chemicals" and big words listed in the ingredients?

Keep in mind that “chemicals”s are NOT all bad. After all, YOU are made of chemicals. Such as water, oxygen, etc. Don’t be afraid of big words; be informed. When you come across words that you cannot pronounce in our ingredients, keep in mind that we use scientific names. For example – Coconut Oil is “Cocos Nucifera”; Aloe is “Burm. F. Barbados”; Stearic Acid is a thickening agent that comes from the wax in vegetables; Baking Soda is “Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate”. See, not so scary!

Some of our ingredients go through processes to get them to stabilize, and that changes the chemical makeup and, therefore, changes its scientific name. So, you will see the terms "alcohol" or "acid" pop up. Again, these are not scary ingredients- just scary-sounding names given by the INCI catalog (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient)

I'm a vegetarian. Can I use BFF products?

Botanically Fused Formulas does not use animal by-products, which are “any material derived from the body of an animal"; I.E. flesh, fat, blood, milk, eggs. With the exception of: we do use Beeswax in some of our lip balms and honey or silk peptides in a few formulas as well. Check the ingredient list if you are sensitive to honey or beeswax. We NEVER test on animals!

I'd like to carry BFF products in my store. Can I order in bulk?

Most BFF products are made to order in our small commercial grade kitchen, on site. Due to the intimate size of our formula lab and our limited supply of packaging / elements (to keep your costs down) any bulk ordering must be pre-approved. Please contact us directly. Let's talk!
