After savoring a delicious breakfast at the Bayberry Inn, you can embark on a fun-filled day of adventure.in Southern Oregon and still make it back in time to see a play at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival or at the Oregon Cabaret.
Crater Lake National Park
An hour-and-a-half away from the Bayberry Inn B&B, this is the perfect place to visit for a day. It is one of the most spectacular sites to see and the drive is beautiful. If you have time, stop by Natural Bridge Loop at Mile Marker 55 to stretch your leg. You won’t regret it. Crater Lake Lodge is an option to stop for a cafeteria-style lunch.
Wineries
Southern Oregon is one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the world. With over 70 vineyards in our backyard, many of who are award-winning, we recommend spending at least a day visiting our wineries.
We have several local wineries in Ashland, but if you want to venture out a bit further, ask the Bayberry Inn staff for a map. The Applegate & Rogue Valley wineries are worth driving out too, especially if you want to load up on great wines at great prices directly from the source
River Rafting
Ashland is surrounded by the Umpqua & Rogue River where you can find some amazing rafting. Anything from easy slow rides down a lazy part of the river to extreme rafting can be found here. Most outfitters will pick you up from the Bayberry Inn and have either morning or afternoon trips, depending on what part of the river you’re riding. They also provide you with water & food, but you need to bring your own towel.
Hyatt Lake
With a small restaurant and plenty of fishing, Hyatt Lake is about 30 minutes from Ashland and is a great place to spend the day hiking & fishing. There are plenty of day use areas with picnic tables. They have a small restaurant and shop where you can pick up some basic things such as tackle and fresh fishing lines.
Jacksonville is a historic small town located about 30 miles from Bayberry Inn. It is home to the Britt Festival, a wonderful outdoor live music venue that is filled with great musical acts from around the country, featuring everything from classic rock, jazz, chamber, and classical music. You can sign up for tours of Jacksonville on a traditional trolly, which takes about an hour. The town is small and quaint, with a few good restaurants and bars.
The Oregon Caves are located in Cave Junction, Oregon about 89 miles outside of Ashland. It’s an easy place to visit during the warmer months and is on the way to the Southern Oregon Coast. It can easily be done in a day and I would recommend calling ahead to schedule a tour (click here for reservations) so you can make sure to have a spot and maximize your visit.
Ashland is a Hiking & Biking Mecca for outdoor junkies.
The jewel of Southern Oregon, Ashland is uniquely situated where the Cascades & Siskiyou Mountain ranges meet. It is not only beautiful but also the perfect place for outdoor adventures, such as skiing, trail running, hiking, and mountain biking. Ashland offers everything from light one-hour hikes to extremely steep climbs where you’re sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Described as ‘cheap, deep & steep,’ Mt. Ashland is a great ski mountain and offers a pretty incredible varied terrain, but in the summertime, it’s a wonderland of hiking & biking trails.
Grizzly Peak Hike . High above Ashland in the Siskiyou-Cascade National Monument is the most spectacular hike called Grizzly Peak. Located 30 minutes up above Ashland at 5,922 feet is the trailhead, which takes you through forests that open out onto meadows, and at the top, you get to the most spectacular views of Mt. Ashland, Mt. Shasta & Mt. McLoughlin. Luckily, you climb most of the elevation in your car, so the actual hike from the trailhead is 2.5 miles and not difficult. It’s perfect for families and for a perfect day. Take a picnic, bring your camera, and enjoy the day.
Lake of the Woods
Located 45 minutes away from downtown Ashland, Lake of the Woods is a wonderful place to go hiking, fishing or boating. You can rent all types of boats & paddle boards for the day so all you need is your bathing suit & towel. There is a small convenient store & a restaurant and I highly recommend having a Bloody Mary!
Pilot Rock Hike. Located outside of Ashland, on the way to Mt. Ashland, you’ll find a stunning 2.8-mile hike called Pilot Rock. Beautiful wildflowers line this gorgeous hike, and the bottom part is easy and accessible for anyone. The closer you get to the top, however, the more difficult and technical it becomes. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from May until October. Dogs can also use this trail but not at the top where it becomes shale & dangerous.
Lithia Park
A gorgeous place to take an easy stroll, Lithia Park is the jewel of our town. Accessed from downtown Ashland, about 5 blocks from the Bayberry Bed and Breakfast, you can take an easy stroll or a rigorous hike up into the mountains. End up at a swimmable pond or continue on to find Ashland's hidden "Fairy Ponds".
Ashland Biking Trails
Many rides from Ashland can take you 3 to 30 miles or more.
Please be cautious when hiking and biking our trails, for they can be quite extreme in spots, and you will be in and out of cell phone reception. It’s best to take your phone, let someone you leave behind know where you are hiking, and take plenty of water and snacks. Give someone your itinerary and agree on an estimated finish time when you will call them to let them know you have returned safely.
